About Open Source
Open Source on Velzio Launch is where code anyone can read, run and change takes the spotlight. Here you will find finished applications, libraries that slot into other people's work, tools you host on your own servers, and models released with their weights and licences in plain view. Commercial ventures built on open foundations sit alongside community projects.
Openness is a promise, so we encourage founders to state the licence, link the repository and explain who looks after the project. Browse the whole category or step into a subcategory, then use the filters to narrow the field. Listings appear newest first; switch to community votes to see what the crowd favours. Votes can never be bought, so the ordering stays honest and worth your attention.

Open Source: questions answered
- What belongs in the Open Source category?
- Products and businesses whose source is publicly available under a stated licence. That includes complete apps, reusable libraries, software you host yourself and openly released AI models. If the code is closed and only the marketing is open, it belongs in a different category.
- How do I choose between Open source apps and Self-hosted tools?
- Pick Open source apps when the product is something people use directly, whether on a device or in a browser. Pick Self-hosted tools when the defining feature is that the buyer runs it on their own infrastructure. Your main category should reflect how people mostly meet the product.
- How do I get an open source project listed here?
- Go to /submit and paste your website address. An AI drafts the profile from that site, and you check and edit every field before anything goes live. Your main category is included free, and an upgrade adds up to 3 more categories for $5.
- How are listings ordered, and can votes be influenced?
- Listings appear newest first by default, and visitors can sort by community votes instead. Votes can never be bought, so a high position reflects genuine interest. A free listing joins a queue of about 6-8 weeks before it appears.
- What should I compare when choosing between open source options?
- Check the licence first, since it decides how you may use and redistribute the code. Then look at how recently the project has been maintained, how clear the documentation is, how easy installation looks, and whether a company or community stands behind it for support.
